The Whitsunday Jetski Tours team has successfully completed another Variety Jet Trek with the added accomplishment of being the third highest fundraiser in the event this year. The team participated in the 2012 Yamaha Variety Clarence to Coral Jet Trek, raising just under $5000 for Variety Queensland.

Sam Nikov took on the challenge of jetskiing the 700km trek from the Clarence River to Tin Can Bay to raise funds for children’s charity Variety Queensland, with Whitsunday Jetski Tour owners Steve and Toni Ward as the support team. This year, 30 riders competed with the support of 50 road crew and $62 000 overall was raised for Variety Queensland.

“It was a great week spending time with fellow jetskiers, but most importantly, knowing that we were working towards the bigger goal of helping sick and disadvantaged children is the most satisfying part for everyone who competed in Jet Trek. It is a hard ride but well worth it and Sam did a fantastic job,’ Toni said.

Steve, Toni and their children also had the opportunity to catch up with Grant Denyer as he was covering Jet Trek for breakfast show, Sunrise, which was a highlight for all involved and great exposure on a national level.

“We really want to thank everyone for their support with our fundraising and we are looking forward to doing it all again next year,” said Toni.

“WHITSUNDAY WIPEOUT” YAMAHA VARIETY JET TREK – 9 to 14 May 2011

Whitsunday Jet skier, Steve Ward, has risen to the challenge to trek down the Queensland coastline from Townsville to Mackay in early May and raise money for children’s charity Variety Queensland.

Like the famous Variety Bash & 4WD events, but done on water down the magnificent Queensland coastline, the 2011 Whitsunday Wipeout Yamaha Variety Jet Trek event will start in Townsville on Monday 9th May before travelling over 550kms through the magnificent Whitsundays and end in Mackay 6 days later.

“We are so excited to be involved with such a fantastic cause and we will have some great fun at the same time” Steve said, owner of local popular tour operator, Whitsunday Jetski Tours.

The much anticipated event is filling fast with a maximum of 60 craft and only 15 places left. Safety is paramount and the Flotilla will be accompanied by PWC (Personal Water Craft) experts, mechanics, medical support and water recovery crews.

Now in its 13th year, this event has become a major fundraiser for children’s charity Variety Queensland, last year raising over $170,000 from 40 Jet Ski entries.

This year event organisers hope to raise over $180,000 with approximately 40 Skis and 80 participants once again.

The trek will provide fun-filled theme nights, fabulous entertainment, accommodation and of course navigating in safety down the magnificent Qld coastline, beaches, sea-life and islands on the way.

‘Trekkers’ as they are affectionately known will get a well deserved ‘Lay Day’ in Airlie Beach to rest, relax and perform any required maintenance on their skis half way along on Thursday 12th May.

“It’s not only about having fun as the trekkers will also visit a number of schools on the way and experience first hand how rewarding it can be to participate in a Variety event.” said Variety Motoring Events Director Mr Rob Goodwin.

In the last year, Variety Queensland has been able to have a positive effect on the lives of over 50,000 children in need. With the assistance of our generous supporters, we provided equipment and services to families across Queensland to the value of over $2.5 million.

Participants need to provide their own sit-down craft. The craft must be no older than 2004, the registration fee is $50 and each participant must raise a minimum of $2,000. A provision levy is also payable by entrants to cover meals, entertainment, accommodation, event merchandise and a DVD of the event.

The trek begins with registration at Townsville on Sunday May 8 and then splashes off on Monday May 9 from Townsville to Ayr, Bowen (May 10), Airlie Beach (May 11 & 12), Laguna (May 13), and concludes at Mackay (May 14).
